Whether you choose classic blue, pretty pink, or refreshing green, these costumes are guaranteed to stand out at Halloween parties, school parades, and trick-or-treating.

The best part? You can make them yourself with a cardboard box, a large clear storage bag, balloons, and a printable Tic Tac sign!

What You’ll Need to Make a DIY Tic Tac Costume

Gather a few inexpensive supplies before getting started.

- Cardboard box: This creates the top of your oversized Tic Tac container.

- White paint: To give the cardboard box a clean, Tic Tac-inspired look.

- Large clear storage bag: This forms the bottom of the costume and holds the balloons.

- Balloons: Choose blue, pink, white, or another color to match your Tic Tac design.

- Printable Tic Tac sign: The finishing touch that makes the costume instantly recognizable.

- Scissors or a box cutter: For cutting the cardboard (adult supervision recommended).

- Tape: To secure the storage bag and costume pieces.

- Clothing: A matching colored sweatshirt to your tic tac color and white pants or leggings complete the look.

Step 1: Prepare the Cardboard Box

Start by finding a sturdy cardboard box. You’ll use it to create the top portion of your Tic Tac container.

Cut the box down to approximately these dimensions:

- Length: 18 inches

- Width: 12 inches

- Depth: 9 inches

These measurements are a starting point, so feel free to adjust the box to fit the person wearing the costume.

Next, cut a hole in the center of the top of the box that is large enough for the wearer’s head to fit through comfortably.

Cut out the entire bottom of the box so the wearer can slip into the costume.

Finally, cut a semicircle/dome shape out of each side of the box to create openings for the shoulders. These cutouts will help the box sit comfortably while allowing room to move your arms.

Safety tip: Use a box cutter carefully, and have an adult handle the cutting if children are helping with the project.

Step 2: Paint the Box White

Once your cardboard box is cut to size, paint the outside white.

Apply an even coat of paint and let it dry completely. Depending on the cardboard, you may need a second coat for a smooth, solid finish.

The white box creates the look of the cap on a giant Tic Tac container.

Allow the paint to dry fully before moving on to the next step.

Step 3: Fill the Clear Storage Bag With Balloons

Now for the fun part!

Take a large, clear storage bag and fill it with balloons in your chosen color. The balloons create the look of Tic Tac mints inside the oversized container.

Here are a few color combinations to try:

- Blue: A classic, bright look.

- Pink: A fun, playful option.

- White: A clean, simple design.

- Green: A fresh take on the original Tic Tac look.

Inflate the balloons to a similar size (approximately 6-7” is good) so they look more like a coordinated collection of mints. Tie off the balloon and cut off excess balloon length. Avoid overfilling the bag, since you want enough room for the balloons to move naturally.

Leave enough space at the top of the bag to attach it securely to the cardboard box.

Helpful tip: Clear storage bags make the costume look like a giant container of Tic Tac mints while keeping the balloons together.

Step 4: Add the Tic Tac Sign

The Tic Tac logo is what really brings this costume to life!

Print your Tic Tac graphic in the color of your choice. You can use a printable digital download or order a custom decal, depending on the look you want. Print a 12” x 18” poster print at CVS or Walgreens. The length of the graphic should cover most of the length of the box and extend down the front of the box and cover some of the storage bag.

Once you have your sign, attach it to the front of the white cardboard box. Make sure it is centered and easy to see.

For the best result, smooth out the sign and secure the edges so it stays in place throughout the night.

Step 5: Assemble Your Costume

You’re almost done!

Carefully position the balloon-filled storage bag underneath the cardboard box. Secure the bag to the box with tape so the two pieces stay together.

Check that the box sits comfortably on the wearer’s shoulders and that the head and arm openings allow for easy movement.

Make any final adjustments to the bag, balloons, and sign.

For the finishing touch, wear a matching colored sweatshirt and white pants or leggings underneath the costume. White pants helps the costume look cohesive and keeps the focus on the colorful Tic Tac design.

Before heading out, make sure the costume is secure and that the wearer can walk, see, and move their arms comfortably.

Step 6: Choose Your Favorite Tic Tac Color

One of my favorite things about this DIY is how easy it is to customize!

Make a single costume in your favorite color or create a group costume with friends or siblings.

Pink, blue, and white look adorable together, while green is perfect for anyone who wants a more classic Tic Tac-inspired design.

You could even make several different colors for a fun group Halloween costume.
